Changes to the Java Standard Edition 6 Programmer Certified Professional Exam (SCJP 6)

Earlier this month, Oracle announced that Java, Oracle Solaris, MySQL, and NetBeans certification exams will be offered through a new test delivery partner - Pearson VUE - and will no longer be available through Prometric test centers. This includes the Java Standard Edition 6 Programmer Certified Professional Exam, also known as SCJP 6.

The move to Pearson VUE is also accompanied with some changes in the SCJP 6 exam itself, these changes are as follows:

  • Exam number is now 1Z0-851 (Previously 310-065).
  • Exam duration is now 150 minutes (Previously 210 minutes).
  • Number of questions is now 60 (Previously 72 questions).
  • Passing score is now 61% (Subject to change) (Previously 65%).
  • No Drag and Drop questions.

For more information about the exam, see this.

Pearson VUE test centers are available all over Egypt, find a test center in your city using this form.

Best of luck! :)

Social Networks YOU Need to Be on!

Here are the social networks Dr. Maged Ghoneima mentioned on his session, we, along with him, believe that is important to have an active account on each of these services:

Facebook: with over 600 million users worldwide, Facebook is the biggest social network there is. Users may create a personal profile, add other users as friends, and exchange messages, including automatic notifications when they update their profile. Additionally, users may join common interest user groups, organized by workplace, school or college, or other characteristics.

Link: http://www.facebook.com/

MUFIX Community on Facebook: LIKE US!

Twitter: a microblogging service that enables its users to send and read messages called “tweets”. Tweets are text-based posts of up to 140 characters displayed on the user’s profile page.

Link: https://twitter.com/

MUFIX Community on Twitter: FOLLOW US!

LinkedIn: a business-oriented social network. It is mainly used for professional networking and can be used to find jobs, people and business opportunities. On LinkedIn, job seekers can review the profiles of hiring managers and discover which of their existing contacts can introduce them, and employers can list jobs and search for potential candidates.

MUFIX Community on LinkedIn: JOIN US!

Location-based Services (LBS): a location-based service is an information or entertainment service, accessible with mobile devices through the mobile network and utilizing the ability to make use of the geographical position of the mobile device. LBS include services to identify a location of a person or object, such as discovering the nearest banking cash machine or the whereabouts of a friend or employee. LBS can include mobile commerce when taking the form of coupons or advertising directed at customers based on their current location. They include personalized weather services and even location-based games.

Popular Location-based services: Foursquare, Gowalla, and IntaFeen.

Note that to take full advantage of such services, you need to download the application on a mobile phone with GPS service available.

So, you have created accounts on all of those, wondering what’s next??

1. PERSONALIZE!

Edit your profile with your details, upload your picture- if you did not want to put your picture online, create an avatar and use it as your picture on all of your profiles, some really cool (and free!) services that we recommend using are Yahoo! Avatars, Face Your Manga, Picasso Head, and Doppel Me.

2. SOCIALIZE!

Look for your friends on those networks and add/follow/connect to them! INTERACT! Share your pictures, your thoughts, your ideas! INTERACT! Look for the influential people in the industry on Twitter and follow them, learn from them, and of course, INTERACT!

We hope to see you on ALL of those networks. If you have any question, we are more than glad to help, reach us!

Also, here are the social network accounts of Dr. Maged Ghoneima:

Twitter: https://twitter.com/mghoneima

LinkedIn: http://www.linkedin.com/in/mghoneima

Have a great weekend!

What’s after Graduation? Job, Research or Entrepreneurship?

This week, we were pleased and honoured to have Dr. Maged Ghoneima, General Manager of Wireless Stars and Community Officer of Egypreneur, in a special two-hour session entitled “What’s After Graduation? Job, Research or Entrepreneurship?”. Here is a quick recap of it.

Dr. Maged started the session by illustrating some of the elements required for success in life; those included breaking the fear barrier, mentioning that the Egyptian revolution would not have succeeded if people did not break the fear barrier and that if we wanted to be that successful as a nation once again, we must reunite under the same goal. Also, another important element for success is NOT giving in to comfort; one of the most important aspects of successful entrepreneurs is that they have no fear of leaving their comfort zone.

One of the things that Dr. Maged stressed on was the importance of expanding our horizons, saying that there are opportunities for us in our everyday lives to become millionaires but we do not see them or just choose not to take them, and that we have to think about the prospects of the opportunities lying in front of us.

Dr. Maged talked about three things that if strongly present in Egypt, we would be the best country in the world, those things are: knowledge, collaboration and teamwork, and media. The most important of the three is media, as if media did not exist; both knowledge and collaboration would suffer. He also mentioned that up until now, we still do not own our own media, an example of this is the shutdown of the Third Intifada Page on Facebook. And that is why, he announced, he has been working with a team on creating the first ever social network for the Middle East that will be launched in about two weeks.

Dr. Maged then talked about entrepreneurship and the things you need to start a successful company, those things are business experience and knowledge of various kinds, especially of the concepts of assets and liability. He also mentioned that one of the important things when starting your own business is building a strong network of people in different fields, saying that your real asset is your network.

Hope you enjoyed our session for this week. Tell us what you think of it in the comments :)
